"Lake Champlain: An Illustrated History," was prepared in anticipation of this summer's quadricentennial celebration, commemorating the exploration of the lake by Samuel De Champlain.

The upcoming Quadricentennial Celebration of Samuel de Champlain’s “discovery” of Lake Champlain in 1609 presented an opportune time to publish an illustrated book documenting in words and images Lake Champlain’s vivid history and rich cultural heritage. This publication encompasses everything from the lake’s natural history and military importance, to the history of its native peoples, its role as a major trade thoroughfare in the 19th century, and its status as a recreational paradise today.
